Heart of a Champion proudly honours Nova Scotia’s, Mike MacKenzie, as this week’s Saturday Salute! 🙂

Mike started his racing career in the 70s turning wrenches for his brother ‘Skip’ on his pro stock, then with Greg Sewart in the #99! In 1983, Mike decided to try his hand driving his own pro stock, during the inaugural year for MASCAR, a car which he built at Crooks Racing. 🙂

Mike’s smooth driving style led him to an accomplished, well-rounded, driving career which was topped off with his induction into the Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2015! 🙂

Notable accomplishments include his win at the prestigious IWK Riverside 250, finished runner-up 3 times in the MASCAR points, two top 5 finishes at the TARGA Newfoundland, top 5 finishes at the Moosehead Grand Prix in 1991 & ’92 and qualifying for the NASCAR Xfinity race in Montreal in 2007! 🙂

Mike’s professional career went hand-in-hand with his passion for stock cars as he was the Shop Foreman at Forbes Chev-Olds for many years. 🙂
Mike continues to stay very active with racing, maintaining, and repairing many top pro stock cars that race on the Maritime Pro Stock Tour! Mike is also passionate about corvette’s and his known as a foremost expert in corvette restoration. 🙂

Mike and Kelli can be seen most weekends following the Pro Stock tour and supporting our local racers!

Mike, for the 45+ years of dedication to Maritime motorsports, you have the Heart of a Champion! 🙂 Photos: FB, Ken Bottomley, Matt Deering, Mike Ettinger, Ken MacIsaac.
