Don McCabe

Today, Heart of a Champion proudly recognizes Don McCabe as this week’s ‘Saturday Salute’ recipient! 🙂 The ‘God Father’ of New Brunswick snowmobiling was born in Ontario, however, moved to NB in the late 1950s. Don worked as a project manager in the construction industry on major landmarks such as the Moncton Dumont Hospital, the IWK, numerous schools, bridges, and the Molson Brewery. 🙂 For a pastime in the winter, Don took up snowmobiling. Years before any trails were marked or signed he was out clearing many of the trails we enjoy today. 🙂 In the early 80’s Don, along with friends, groomed trails with an alpine snowmobile with a homemade drag. Don’s garage in Rosevale was the first gathering point for what was to become the largest snowmobile club in Atlantic Canada; The South Eastern New Brunswick Snowmobilers Association. Under his guidance trails were cleared and signed & bridges and shelters constructed. 🙂 He has participated and organized almost every club function one can imagine and with his determination and passion, a driving force behind the Association for many years. Don passed his love of motorsports down to his son Brad and Grandson Trevor, who competed on the oval tracks of New Brunswick. Don sadly passed away in 2008 and will be forever missed. Don, you lived and snowmobiled with the Heart of a Champion. 🙂 Photo’s: FB
