Today, Heart of a Champions ‘Saturday Salute’ is honorary Maritimer, Don ‘The Bear’ Hawn! Don started racing in the late 60s at Pinecrest Speedway, running against the heroes of the day like Jim Hallahan and Don Biederman! As one of Ontario’s top Pro Stock drivers in the 70s and 80s, Don made several trips to the Maritime’s to race against the best Pro Stock drivers on the East Coast! 🙂 Don even ventured south of the border and considered a career highlight to have race hard against NASCAR legend, Mark Martin! 🙂 Known as a fierce competitor, who tirelessly worked to squeeze every ounce of speed out of his cars, Don won his share of features, dashes, and championships! 🙂 You couldn’t find a better friend than ‘The Bear’ and he was a true family man. 🙂 Although Don left us in 2017, he instilled the same values in his two boys, Tyler, and Daniel, who continue to tear up the tracks of Ontario, in tribute to their legendary father.
