Today, Heart of a Champion’s ‘Saturday Salute” is Cape Breton’s motorsports ambassador, Albert Broussard! The Broussard name is synonymous with Cape Breton stock car racing. 🙂 Albert debuted back in 1967 at the Midway Speedway. He and brother Joe split the driving on an old car at the dirt track. A few years later in 1976, brothers Bill and Fred, along with Albert campaigned 2 cars at Bud’s Speedway and were consistent front runners. He ran his own car for the ’77 and ’78 season before stepping away from the track for a few years. In 1983, he and brother Joe teamed up once again for more success. 🙂 He ran his own red Chevelle in ’85 and ’86, which was his final full-time season of stock car driving. We are sad to share that Albert passed away this week. Gone but never forgotten. Albert had the Heart of a Champion! 🙂 Text/Photo: Ken MacIsaac
