Today we proudly salute Jerry ‘Jer Bear’ Lawrence! Jerry has been profoundly dedicated to Maritime motorsports since the late 50s, starting at Maitland Dragway. From the announcer’s booth, at practically every racing venue in the Maritime’s (including drag/stock car racing, karting, powerboat racing, monster truck and truck pulls, AMP, soapbox derby, etc), Jerry’s voice kept the show running seamlessly and kept throngs of race fans entertained! Jerry has dedicated his life to public service, donating his time to countless events spanning 50+ years. Announcer, promoter, coach, alderman, MLA & Provincial Cabinet Minister, radio personality, Canadian Broadcasting HOF member, MMHOF member, advocate for the disabled, volunteer, community leader and friend to everyone, Jerry has accomplished this all from the confines of a wheelchair, having polio in 1951. Jerry, thank you for dedicating your life to supporting all those around you and promoting, selflessly, Maritime motorsports over the past 5 decades! You exemplify Heart of a Champion.
